With the approach of the Easter holiday, Mayor Tim Monceaux is repeating his plea to the citizens of Crowley to remain vigilant in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
“As we prepare for Easter, please continue to be mindful of the need to practice social distancing. The temptation to gather in large groups this weekend to celebrate the joy of the season should not be yielded to,” Monceaux said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon. “There will be time in the near future for celebrations and family gatherings.
“Please continue to follow the governor’s stay at home order, stay 6 feet apart from others when socializing, do not gather in groups of 10 or more, and do not leave your homes unless it is absolutely necessary for your well-being or your job.
“Support our local businesses as much as you possibly can, but take the necessary precautions for your safety and that of your fellow citizens. Consider the recommendation of the CDC to wear a mask when you must go out, which protects others should you have the coronavirus but not have symptoms.
“The medical experts have indicated we are at a critical point in our fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The actions taken thus far to lessen the spread of COVID-19 appear to be working. Your actions are and will continue to be a very real factor in whether the pandemic continues to rage on or it weakens sooner than anticipated.
“ There is an old saying that nothing worthwhile comes easy, and that is so very true during these challenging times. But, the hardships experienced now will all be worth the effort each and every citizen has put forth.
“I stand ready to assist you in any way I can, so do not hesitate to call City Hall at 783-0824. City continues to provide essential public services and I commend city employees for their commitment to their job responsibilities.
“I pray for your safety and a blessed Easter season.”
