A community Memorial Day program is being planned for Monday, May 25, in Levy Park.
Charlotte Jeffers and Ann Mire are spearheading plans for the event that will memorialize all veterans and active duty service men and women, area veterans organizations and local and area public officials.
The program will begin at 10 a.m. in the northwest corner of Levy Park.
“Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home is providing us with a tent and we will have chairs spaced out to meet social distancing guidelines,” said Jeffers.
Mire said she is hoping to read the names of the 60-plus service men and women from Crowley who were killed or died while serving their country.
“This is not a city-sponsored event,” said Mire. “This is just some citizens getting together to have a Memorial Day service for everyone in Crowley.”
Police Chief Jimmy Broussard will serve as master of ceremonies for the event and Boy Scouts from Troop 430 will be on hand for support, as will some veterans organizations.
For more information or to volunteer, call Jeffers at 581-7010.
